ARTIST STATEMENT

Jonathan Dunkelman’s paintings hover between landscape and the non-objective.

He combines geometric shapes interacting with flat bold plains of colour and spontaneous mark-making.

Working without source imagery, paint is applied in thin layers.

The result is work that explores the relationship between impulse and preparation, nature and urban development.
